Bringing back the parlor

What does one do with inherited furniture and accessories? This couple had cherished pieces  they hoped to incorporate into a "parlor" of sorts. First, the room was softened by painting the wood stained trim and shelves a warm white.

The beautifully carved arms and feet of her grandmother's sofa saved it from being tossed. A fanciful floral fabric reminiscent of bygone eras seemed the perfect choice to bring it new life. A subtle ottoman fabric was used on the matching chair and an additional chair from the husband's family.

Large contemporary mixed media art and a custom rug bring the room to life.

While hanging an antique painting over a side table, the grandmother's hiding place for cash was found on the back of the frame. The homeowner's had a true example of stories that had been told of the grandmother's antics!
